  3. Site navigation is fairly clear
  4. Feedback occurs after each question to enhance learning during the test-taking process
Cons:
  1. Lots of advertising on the site which can become distracting
  2. Not a dedicated education tool, so it takes some extra thought

Best for: integrating with social media

Poll Maker creates simple polls and surveys to integrate with social media sites. It is completely free and requires no registration or downloads. It is incredibly easy to set up and there are a number of themes to enhance the look of your quiz.

Pros:
  1. Polls can be shared on various social media platforms
  2. Various themes to choose from and customize
  3. Enable or disable comments
  4. Choose if and how results are displayed
  5. Limit the number of times an individual takes a quiz
Cons:
  1. This is not really intended to be an educational tool so the options are fairly one-dimensional
  2. Limited question types

School House Technologies

Test Type: Printable

Best for: creating multiple versions of a single test

The target market is teachers with different learning levels and abilities in one class. Tests can be re-worked to suit different learning abilities using filters. School House Technologies offers worksheets, test and activities. This site is compatible with Windows only.

Pros:
  1. 13 types of questions including checklists, tables and diagrams
  2. List style questions can be set to prompt
  3. Assign level and category filters for ease of reference
  4. Add or remove questions with a checkbox to personalize tests
Cons:
  1. Apple/Mac users must have a PC emulator
  2. Printable tests only
  3. Software must be downloaded

The free version is a trial only. All versions are paid.

But the more expensive Pro offers:

Articulate Studio

Test Type: Online

Best for: enhancing a Microsoft Windows computer

Articulate is a Microsoft PowerPoint add-in and software package for e-Learning that is part of the fuller Articulate suite. It is best used in partnership with the other programs in the Articulate software and only compatible with Windows devices.

Pros:
  1. The media includes photographic and illustrated avatars and the ability to insert various forms of media, including video recorded from your webcam
  2. Create graded, survey or free-form questions
  3. Question styles include hotspot and sequence
  4. Quizzes can include animations and transitions
  5. If you are a Windows user, the interface is incredibly easy to use
Cons:
  1. Free version is a 30-day trial only. The full software product must be purchased for $1,398
  2. Suitable for Windows computers only
  3. Functionality only truly useful if used alongside the rest of the Articulate suite
  4. There have been reports that the support is not efficient.

ClassMarker 
An easy-to-use platform for creating embeddable online quizzes, Classmarker’s clear user manual and video tutorials make it simple for teachers to create, manage, and assign multimedia quizzes. Free basic plan for education allows 1,200 graded tests per year. In addition to the professional paid plans, there’s also the option for a one-time purchase—great for occasional users!

EasyTestMaker 
EasyTestMaker provides tools to generate a wide assortment of tests, including multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching, short answer, and true-or-false questions. Free basic account allows 25 tests. 

Factile
What’s more fun than a Jeopardy-style online quiz game? Designed for both in-person and remote learning, Factile’s unique platform includes thousands of premade quiz-game templates. With the free basic account, users can create three quiz games, play with five teams, and access the library containing more than a million games. The modestly priced school account is integrated with Google Classroom and Remind and features beloved elements such as “thinking music” during timer countdown as well as the iconic buzzer mode.

Fyrebox
It’s easy to sign up for free and start making quizzes right away with Fyrebox. Quiz types include open-ended, scenario, and two kinds of multiple choice. Ideal for teachers who prefer a simple, free online quiz and poll generator, GoToQuiz has three basic quiz templates and automatic scoring. Quizzes can be shared via a unique URL. 

Hot Potatoes
With its bare-bones Web 1.0 interface, Hot Potatoes doesn’t make a splashy first impression. But this completely free online test generator is actually W3C Validated and HTML 5 compliant. Users create six types of browser-based quizzes with the bundled applications, which are downloaded and installed in less than a minute. Quiz files can then be uploaded to your school website, or shared with students to run on their desktops. While this isn’t the slickest platform, the price is right, and there’s an active Google user group discussing the best ways to use it. Try it yourself. Integrated with Google Classroom. Free trials available. 

Super Teacher Worksheets

Educators can find worksheets, printables, games, and generators for quizzes covering dozens of topics in reading, math, grammar, spelling, science, and social studies. A fine option for those who prefer printouts to strictly digital tools. Affordable individual and school accounts. 

Testmoz 

This relatively simple site provides four types of quizzes, easy drag-n-drop question management, and quick sharing via URL. Automatic grading and a comprehensive results page allow teachers to quickly assess student progress. Free basic account allows up to 50 questions and 100 results per test. Paid account unlocks all features for $50 annually.
