Marketing Software Platforms for Shopify

If you took a look at these two sentences, you may be thinking, “What does shopify and email marketing have to do with each other?” are some questions which are keeping you puzzled. As an SEO expert, I can tell that you need to understand about marketing software platforms for shopify and best email marketing apps for shopify.

Shopify is a great platform for ecommerce. I have used Shopify many times and each time it has been excellent. You can install apps on it to help your store such as this email marketing app for shopify.  Ecommerce is growing so rapidly and is being used by a lot of people as a way to get business. We have all been there and bought something on Amazon that we didn’t need but couldn’t resist clicking the buy now button.

Omnisend

shopify email marketing omnisend

With its strong focus on ecommerce, multi-channel provider Omnisend fairly and squarely lands the number one spot on our list. This slick tool offers a range of automations targeted at different stages of the customer journey (browse abandonment, cart abandonment, order confirmations, etc.), plus some very cool email features such as gift boxes, scratch cards and other incentives.

Beyond email, Omnisend also allows you to send SMS, push notifications, and Facebook and WhatsApp messages.

Pricing:

  • 500 emails/month to up to 250 contacts: Free
  • Up to 500 contactable subscribers and 6,000 emails/month: $16 per month
  • Up to 1,000 contactable subscribers and 12,000 emails/month: $20 per month
  • Up to 5,000 contactable subscribers and 60,000 emails/month: $65 per month

You can store unlimited contacts on all plans. See our detailed pricing guide for more information.

What we liked: The ease of integration with Shopify. You can create a sign-up form that automatically links up with your store in Shopify (as long as you’re not using a third-party template, in which case you just need to insert some code into your site). The email editor also lets you automatically add products from your store straight into your email. And conversion-focused features such as scratch cards, gift boxes and ‘wheel of fortune’ signup forms are quite unique to Omnisend – we haven’t really seen them in any other provider. The fact that the free plan comes with unlimited subscribers is a big plus (though be aware that you can only contact up to 250/month).

Where they could improve: While the email editor lets you integrate some features with your store (e.g. Product Picker, Featured Product and Product Listings, letting you add these directly into your email), other features like the Product Recommender and Gift Box didn’t seem to have that same direct integration. And while the 20 or so email templates provided look nice and modern, it would be nice to see a wider range of templates. The free plan used to have a much higher sending allowance.

Who we would recommend Omnisend to: If you need a multi-channel platform that lets you manage all your store’s marketing communications out of one place, and would like to be able to add some unique extra features to their emails, we think Omnisend is pretty hard to beat. GetResponse

shopify email marketing getresponse

A powerhouse provider of marketing automation, GetResponse goes that little bit further than your average email marketing service. It does this by offering features like landing pages, webinars and a CRM.

It also happens to be one of the best tools for Shopify email marketing, with its Deep Data integration allowing for synced customer, order and product data, advanced segmentation and tagging, and automated campaigns.

Pricing:

  • Up to 1,000 subscribers and unlimited emails: $15/month
  • Up to 5,000 subscribers and unlimited emails: $45/month
  • Up to 10,000 subscribers and unlimited emails: $65/month

What we liked: GetResponse comes with a wide range of handy, ready-to-go templates for building out automations for your store, including abandoned cart campaigns, post-purchase emails and sales promotions. You can also automatically add recommended products to your emails, which are personalized based on customers’ historical purchases – a super useful feature.

What could be improved: Opt-in emails get sent to customers by default, which is a little annoying, although this can be disabled in your campaign settings. Contacts and products get imported every 24 hours, which could mean a delay in triggering automations. Support could be better, too – we couldn’t find a whole lot of information on the Shopify integration in GetResponse’s Help Center.

Who we would recommend GetResponse to: GetResponse is best suited to larger stores – they would benefit the most from the advanced automations, segmentation features and CRM. We’d also recommend it if you need extra features such as landing pages and webinars.

ActiveCampaign

The way ActiveCampaign do things is actually very similar to a CRM, but will all of the functionality of an email marketing service with the typical email campaigns you’d expect. ActiveCampaign’s userbase grew by 250% in the past year, so they’re certainly a company on the rise!

Also like Campaign Monitor, ActiveCampaign have four tiers for their email marketing services, where the lowest price is $9 per month. The key difference is that ActiveCampaign caps the number of subscribers at this price point at 500. But, at the same time, you can send those 500 people and unlimited number of email campaigns.

Outside of that, the pricing is determined on the tier you select, relative to the number of subscribers. As you move up to the tiers, I find the price jumps to be fairly substantial, to the point where I’m not 100% convinced of the value of those jumps (largely depending on if you are fully using the sales and CRM features in your campaigns / online store integration).

You need to be at least on the second tier if you want ActiveCampaign’s branding off your emails, and a wider range of customized campaigns.

In terms of usability, ActiveCampaign is perfectly fine, but I’m not sure it’s the ideal tool for somebody who’s completely new to digital marketing strategy (above and beyond an email marketing strategy). I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it does feel like you would need some existing knowledge. It gives the impression that it really is aimed at professionals who have some experience with automated email, and they don’t have time for babysitting with their campaigns.

ctiveCampaign also features a robust abandoned cart trigger sequence (triggered emails) or a welcome email sequence, with 7 different ways to segement your potential customers to return to cart and/or offer additional product recommendations.

If you go as far as ActiveCampaign’s top tier, it starts to feel more like a marketing agency, rather than a SaaS. It’s common practice for email marketing companies to increase the personal interaction (and personalized emails / targeted emails) with the user, but this feels like another level. They include: design services, an account rep, phone support, and an uptime SLA.

That top tier also includes a thing called “social data,” which from what I can make out means they’ll tell you the demographic information that you can get for free from Google Analytics and social media. In short, ActiveCampaign is a full scale ecommerce email service, ideal for Shopify email and Shopify stores looking to SCALE.
