Remove Watermark Adobe Photoshop is a plugin for Adobe Photoshop CS3-CS6 for editing image files. This plugin will help you remove a watermark from an image without destroying the original file, and it can remove watermarks from your photo with a few easy steps. This removes the text layer of a layered PSD or TIFF file. You can keep the text layer if you need to edit it later.
Step 1) Open the image in Photoshop from which you want to remove the watermark.
Step 2) Select Magic Wand Tool (or press W) and zoom to the area of the image with watermark by pressing CTRL & + symbol.
Step 3) Now using the Magic Wand Tool, select the watermarked area which you want to remove.
Now you have to make some small changes to the selected area, you need to expend the selection to 5px to add some background pixel to make it wider-
Step 4) To expand the selected watermark area, Go to Select >> Modify >> Expand
Step 5) In the newly opened dialog box, set the Expand Selection to 5 Pixels and press OK.
The expanded section will look like this
Now, we will use Photoshop’s Content-Aware Fill feature of Photoshop to remove the unwanted object from the image
Step 6) Go to Edit >> Content-Aware Fill
And now the Content-Aware Fill Window will automatically remove the watermark and show you the result
You will see that the Watermark has been removed successfully.
Remove Watermark with Content Aware Fill
A more efficient method is to take advantage of the Content Aware Fill feature. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1
Open the image in Photoshop. Next make a selection around the text or logo watermark. You can do this using several tools, either the Pen tool, the Quick Selection tool or the Magic Wand one. Regardless of which tool you opt for, the selection around the watermark should look like this:
Step 2
In this step we are going to make minor adjustments to the selected area, more precisely expanding it in order to incorporate some background pixels. Go to Select > Modify > Expand. In the newly opened dialog box, expand the selection by the number of pixels you want and hit the OK button.
Step 3
Now let’s take advantage of the Content Aware Fill feature and its capabilities to remove objects from an image.
Go to Edit > Fill. In the Fill dialog box that just popped up, select Content Aware in the Contents section, leave Color Adaptation unchecked, set the Mode to Normal and the Opacity to 100% and click on the OK button.
This is how your picture should look like after applying the Content-Aware option:
Step 4
Deselect the selection by pressing Ctrl+D on your keyboard. Now you’ll probably notice that the area where the watermark used to be is filled with the background color. But the outline of the watermark is still visible and we need to remove it too.
Step 5
In order to remove the text outline we are going to resort to the Clone Stamp Tool, so select it from the left side toolbar (or just press S). Next hold down the “Alt” key (notice that the cursor turns into a target) and begin taking samples around the watermark. Now you can retouch the picture by clicking and dragging the cursor over the watermark’s outline area. Stop when there are no more traces of the original watermark left.
How to remove watermarks from images using Content-Aware Move Tool in Photoshop?
Run Photoshop on your computer, add the source image file with watermark on it to Photoshop.
Step 1. Duplicate layer for backup
Right click to duplicate the layer at the Layers panel at the lower right section. You can also create a copy of the source image for backup in your hard drive folder for backup, so you don’t need to duplicate the layer. We are doing this is to make sure you have a backup to restore when you made unrecoverable changes to the source photo. Any changes are to be made to the copy. And when you have removed watermarks from the image copy, save it as a new image.
Step 2. Select watermark
Now go to select the Content-Aware Move Tool in Photoshop as shown in below screenshot.
In the property panel of the Content-Aware Move Tool, choose a remix mode to Move, choose ‘Very Strict‘ to define how strictly the regions preserved. This setting can help get more smooth image quality when the watermarks are being deleted. Click and hold to select the area around the watermark on your image you need to remove.
Step 3. Remove watermark from image
Press the Delete button on your keyboard to remove it. Alternatively when you selected the watermark in the image, you can also go to Edit menu > Fill, then you will see the Fill Pallet box pops up on your PC screen. Here you need to choose Content-Aware in the content to use area, set Mode to Normal, Opacity to 100% in the Blending area, click OK, then the watermark selected will be filled with similar content or color to its background.
How to Remove Watermark in Photoshop
Wondering about how to remove watermark in photoshop? We will try to present a real-time work step by step so that you can clearly understand the way of how to remove watermark in Photoshop. We are directing the experiment in Photoshop CC to get the best Photoshopping output.
1. Open an image containing a watermark in Photoshop to remove the watermark. Look at the below image. We are going to remove the before-after marks and the watermark as well.
2. To remove the before-after marks, at your first attempt, take a selection tool. Here, we are taking the Rectangular marquee tool to make a selection of the ‘before’ marks.
3. Press the right button from your mouse on the selection and click on the Fill option. You can go to Edit from the top bar and click on the Fill option from the dropdown option.
4. Once you click on the Fill option, you will get another dialogue box. Select the Content-Aware option and click on the OK. Now see the magic.
Then, what happened here? The Content-Aware option is the brother of the Clone Stamp tool where we manually take a sample and fill the area we want to remove or hide. The same process is happening here automatically. Content-Aware is sampling the same color from its around and filling the area. Thus, we’ve got a clean area or whatever result we expected.
Now let’s remove the watermark applying the same process of Content-aware.
5. Zoom the image until it gets distorted.
6. Take Lasso tool here in lieu of the Rectangular marquee tool since the edges of the watermarks are not straight as it was in case of before-after marks that we removed earlier.
7. Using the Lasso tool, select the watermark part-by-part and apply the Content-aware option to fill the area with the necessary color. Do the work patiently and spend time to gain the best result. See the below snapshot that we have worked on and removed the watermark successfully.
However, the above image is the result of our tutorial. What we have discussed so far, we think, is enough to make you understand the process of removing a watermark.
